[MUSIC PLAYING] SPEAKER: Let's talk about living your leadership purpose, your declaration of how you want to be as a leader. It captures the impact you want to have on others and how you want to be perceived as a leader. Living your leadership purpose has many benefits. It provides positive mindset and emotional fuel to keep you moving effectively through tough situations.
It keeps your leadership behaviors on target and, at times, the reason part of your brain, which opens the door to creative problem solving. So your leadership purpose is one of the most important tools to strengthen your leadership.
Use these five strategies to help you be more purposeful. 1, make it more visible. Put it where you can see it regularly. 2, share it with others who can help you stay accountable — your manager, your team, your peers. 3, three times a day, pause briefly to reflect on how well you're aligning your thoughts, feelings, and actions with your leadership purpose. This helps make it a habit.
4, when things at work are not going as well as you would like, immediately say your leadership purpose to yourself. When you insert your purpose, your actions and responses will likely lead to more positive outcomes. 5, make a daily gratitude practice to reflect on an outcome from intentionally using your leadership purpose. Remember, your leadership purpose is only effective if you use it. It's like developing muscle memory. The more you use it, the more it becomes a habit.
