Artificial intelligence is changing the way organizations work.
Leaders are using AI to uncover insights, improve efficiency, and navigate increasingly complex business environments. Yet as technology continues to evolve, a fundamental question remains:
What leadership challenges most impact a team's ability to achieve its goals?
To answer that question, Truist Leadership Institute analyzed data from 21 executive teams representing 239 leaders across multiple industries. What emerged was not a story about technology. It was a story about people.
The research revealed a set of leadership challenges that consistently influence team performance. Some create momentum. Others create friction. Understanding the difference may be one of the most important factors in helping teams achieve their objectives.
The findings also challenge a common assumption about AI.
While AI dominated headlines and strategic discussions, it surfaced infrequently as a leadership challenge. Instead, leaders identified opportunities to use AI in ways that strengthen communication, decision-making, development, and team effectiveness.
This raises an important possibility:
What if the future of leadership isn't human-centered leadership or AI?
What if it's human-centered leadership, enabled with AI?
